We certainly had an exciting month of September!  After our awesome Summer Reading Program and a month to regroup, we were ready to try some new things!
First of all, we were excited to have all of our Story Hour friends back with us!  Story hour began on September 5th, with a fitting theme of “Make New Friends”.  We worked together to create an incredible friendship quilt that is currently hanging above the main circulation desk!  We had a special visitor at Story Hour on September 12th!  Clifford the Big Red Dog dropped in to hang out with the kiddos!  They were super excited to see him and to listen to Emily Elizabeth’s storybook.  On September 19th, we had our very own puppet show, The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad… or not so Big Bad Wolf!  Ms. Heather, one of our Story Hour team members, did a fantastic job showing the kids how much fun they can have with puppets.  The kids did so well crafting their own puppets after the show!  We ended the month, on September 26th, with a bang, as we had a mini petting zoo!  The kids learned about animals, went on a Bear Hunt, made a yummy snack, and loved on the animal guests!
We had our first Cooking Up with Kids Club meeting on September 6th!  We had a great turnout and worked together to prepare some incredible quesadillas!  Chicken, veggie, and apple pie quesadillas were fun to create and delicious to eat!  This club meets once a month and is one of our most popular children’s programs.
Snacks in the Stacks met for the first time this month!  This is an impressive group of teenagers who have two things in common:  they love to read and they love to eat snacks!  We met on September 10th to chat about future book choices and genres that may interest them. Our next, student led, meeting will be in October, where they will discuss their first book selection, Lock & Key, and select their next book adventure.
We participated in several outreach programs within the community throughout the month:
  • We had a lot of fun at the MES and BES Literacy Nights!  The kids enjoyed our puppets and were very creative when making their animal masks!
  • Despite the rain, we were able to spend some time at the Apple Festival helping the kids with henna tattoo applications and spin art.
  • It was our pleasure to participate in the Community Baby Shower.  We were able to meet several future parents who will hopefully utilize our library and resources.
  • Ag Day at the park was a huge success and a ton of fun!
  • We hosted the Girls Scouts at the library, on September 27th!  This was a huge group and they did a fantastic job creating artistic masterpieces!
  • We were invited to participate in the Annual Water Department Patron Appreciation Luncheon.  The community enjoyed all of our goodies and we were able to share our exciting upcoming events.
September was a busy and exciting month, but October is going to be epic!
