WE HEAR AND MISS YOU!

WE HEAR AND MISS YOU!  Library staff have answered many calls from people asking about when the library will re-open.  Library staff and the Board of Trustees share in your excitement and are looking forward to the day that we can open our doors!  Although Governor Beshear announced several weeks ago that June 8th would be the earliest that libraries would be able to open, we are still waiting for specific guidelines on how to open doors safely to the public.  Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that we will be able to get all safety measures in place to open by June 8th.  We know that there will be new rules, procedures and service limitations and we have done a lot of things in anticipation of expected guidelines.  As soon as we have an opening date for you, we will SHOUT IT from the roof tops as we are also getting excited to open our doors!

Before our closure, it was common for hundreds of people to enter our building each day. Many people touched the same books, computers, newspapers, study tables, and bathroom sinks. It was common for numerous people to sit in close quarters in our meeting room to experience a program together. Young children would play with toys and look at books - and then minutes later another child would touch those same books and toys. In an environment that is designed for people to browse, linger, and share common resources - reopening in the midst of COVID-19 has serious implications.

We’re eager to welcome you back, and we want to do it safely. This will mean we need to go slowly at first. We have a lot of details to figure out in the coming weeks, and we will be able to make more decisions once those additional guidelines are released.

You, our valued patrons, will be kept informed all along the way.  We will share more details in the coming days about how library services will change. Thank you for your patience and your support as we navigate this new normal, together. Stay safe and healthy and we look forward to seeing you again in the near future!

AMNESTY FOR ALL

5/5/2020

We are excited to announce that the library has  joined a state wide initiative Amnesty for All to waive all patrons fees and fines starting March 26th, 2020, the day the library closed due to the COVID19 pandemic.  Library Board members and staff members want to eliminate any barriers for our community to use library services.  We understand that many in our community are struggling financially at this time and want to make sure that money is not an issue to be able to access library resources.  There is no need to call the library to have the fines or fees waived from your account.  Fees and fines will automatically be done.

Library Board of Trustees and staff members are looking forward to the day that we can return to normal operating hours and providing services.  We are utilizing re-opening guidelines issued by Kentucky and working diligently to be able to provide full library services.  We appreciate your patience as we try to get protective guards installed for our circulation desks and computer carrels.  Purchasing sanitizer, masks and gloves is very difficult at this time as all organizations and businesses are trying to access these supplies.
