Library Cards and Borrowing Items
How do I apply for a library card?
Patrons can apply for library cards by visiting the library during open hours. The front desk staff will assist you in filling out an application.
What do I need to get a library card?
In order to receive a card, proof of residence must be established by providing one of the following: A Valid Driver’s License or state issued ID; current property tax receipt; mortgage statement; utility bill or current mail (postmarked within 30 days).
Does it cost to get a card?
There is no cost for residents of Trimble, Henry, Oldham, and Carroll counties in Kentucky or residents of Jefferson County, Indiana.
What if I lose my card?
Lost library cards may be replaced for a $1.00 fee. Report a lost or stolen card immediately to avoid misuse of your card.
Can my child get their own card?
A parent or guardian must sign a statement of responsibility for children under the age of eighteen (18) unless the child is legally emancipated and has proof of emancipation. Signing the library registration means the customer agrees to assume responsibility for all who make use of the card, pay all fines and/or other charges incurred, notify the library of any change of address and inform the library if the card has been lost or stolen. Youth accounts will be linked to a responsible party (adult parent or guardian) in the library system.

How many items can I borrow with my library card?
There are limits based on the type of item that is being borrowed. Generally speaking, there is no borrowing limit for books, audio books, nonfiction movies, and magazines. For feature films, the limit is 6 movies per library card. For board games, card games, and kits, the limit is 2 items per card. How long can I borrow items?
The borrowing period for most items is 2 weeks. All items except feature films can be renewed, which adds another 2 weeks to the borrowing period from the date of renewal.
Does the library charge late fees or fines?
All borrowed items should be returned by the due date listed on your receipt. Certain items returned after this date will be subject to late fees. Items that accrue late fees include fiction movies, Launchpads, games, and kits.. Additionally, items that are not returned for an extended period will automatically be marked lost in the library system. These items must be returned to the library in good condition or paid for in order to remove the fines. Processing charges may also apply. - Adults are prohibited from using another person’s card to check out library materials unless the person is physically present and gives verbal permission for the person to check out items using their card. Phone calls aren’t allowed to get permission to check out on another person’s account.
- Children are not allowed to use a parent or guardian’s card to check out items unless the adult is present and gives verbal permission for the child to use the card.
- Parents/Guardians are allowed to use a child’s card as long as their personal card is or below the $5.00 fine limit. Adults who have children that have fines over $5.00 will be blocked or limited from checking out on their own account.
- Exception: Privileges may be granted to use another person's library card in cases of extended illness, lack of transportation, or other extenuating circumstances. Patrons who require this service should complete the Absent User Permission form and return it to the library. You can print the form to fill out or request a blank copy at the front desk.
